The LMP Thunderbolt 3 cable (passive) is a passive high bandwidth cable with E-Marker function that provides data transfer rates of up to 20 Gbps and takes advantage of the Thunderbolt technology by supporting a broad variety of protocols: Thunderbolt, USB (USB 3.1 Gen 1/USB 3.0, 2.0, 1.1), DisplayPort 1.2 (DP Altmode), PCI Express 3.0 (PCIe) as well as 10G Ethernet data transfer (further adapters may be needed). Furthermore, it is capable of supplying power from or to devices with up to 60W (max. 5A).
Compared to the active Thunderbolt 3 cable, the passive cable is capable of reaching data transfer rates of up to 20 Gbps over a distance of up to to 2m (copper cables). It is lower in price and can do the job when transfer rates are not the top priority. Furthermore, the passive LMP Thunderbolt 3 cables (0.7m, 1m, 2m) support the USB-C Gen 1 (5 Gbps) and Gen 2 (10 Gbps) full duplex high speed data transmission as well as the 4-lane DisplayPort video signal tansmission via USB-C (DP alternate mode or DP Altmode) which the active Thunderbolt 3 cables cannot. It also supports the DP Altmode via Thunderbolt.
The LMP Thunderbolt 3 cables (passive) support dual-protocol for Thunderbolt mode (PCIe and DP) so it can be used for daisy-chaining devices.
The Thunderbolt 3 enabled computer features a USB-C port with a Thunderbolt icon (lightning bolt next to the port). You should consult your computers tech specs to make sure that it is fully Thunderbolt 3 compatible.
